SAPOLEUM: a family tradition

My soap-making journey began in the late 70s, during cosy winter gatherings at my grandmother’s countryside home. I vividly remember watching her make soap by hand, carefully blending ingredients like a magical ritual. To my young eyes, she was nothing short of a sorceress.
The soap we made during those weekends would last us the entire year. It served every purpose—bathing, facial cleansing, hand washing, and even laundry.
But after my grandmother passed, this cherished tradition faded away, and we gradually forgot about the handmade soap that had been a staple in our lives.
In 2015, memories of my grandmother’s soap came flooding back—the joy, the scent, the tradition. I wanted my son to experience it too. That summer, in Ceglie Messapica, Puglia, Italy, we made our first batch using her original recipe, crafted with premium organic olive oil.
That experience rekindled my passion, and I was hooked.
And so, SAPOLEUM was born.
The name Sapoleum comes from the Latin phrase “Salus per Oleum”, meaning “health through olive oil”.
I truly believe that once you try our handmade soap, you’ll fall in love with it too. Each bar is as natural as it gets, crafted with the finest organic extra virgin olive oil sourced from local farmers.
I’d love to hear from you! Drop me an email to share your thoughts on our soap.
